An unidentified flying object (UFO) disrupted air traffic over Zhejiang's provincial capital Hangzhou late on Wednesday, the municipal government said on Thursday.
Xiaoshan Airport was closed after the UFO was detected at around 9 pm, and some flights were rerouted to airports in the cities of Ningbo and Wuxi , said an airport spokesman, who declined to be named.
The airport had resumed operations, and more details will be released after an investigation, he said.
A source with knowledge of the matter, however, told China Daily on Thursday that authorities had learned what the UFO was after an investigation.
But it was not the proper time to publicly disclose the information because there was a military connection, he said, adding that an official explanation is expected to be given on Friday.
Inbound flights were diverted to the nearby airports in Zhejiang province's Ningbo and Jiangsu province's Wuxi. Outbound flights were delayed for three to four hours.
A staff member at the airport's information desk said the airport had "no idea" how many flights were affected by the closure.

KMPH Fox News 26, Fresno, filed a second report July 7, 2010, on a low flying UFO over the Clovis area on July 2.

Additional witnesses to strange objects in thes ky were called into KMPH following the original report - Clovis, CA, family 'traumatized' after watching low flying UFO. Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) State Section Director and Field Investigator Jeffrey Gonzalez appears again in this coverage.

UFO flying near Illinois nuclear reactor caught on video

An Illinois witness posted a video presentation about a May 8, 2010, triangle or boomerang-shaped UFO sighting that occurred on a flight to Chicago, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

The witness believes the flight was near the Illinois border as it flew into Chicago at the time and was near a nuclear power plant..

Cigar-shaped UFO caught on video low over Saratoga County, New York

A New York witness captured a silent, white, cigar-shaped UFO on video at 500 feet in daylight skies on April 30, 2010, over Saratoga County, according to testimony from the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) witness reporting database.

"When zoomed, the picture gets a little shaky and through the view finder I thought I saw something else in the frame, and you will see in the video, that this capsule/cylinder was being followed by a small unidentifiable small plane," the witness stated.

The witness believes the craft was less than one mile away.
